She's had just five previous owners and now done 103K miles, and has a service history spanning over 49 years, including a stamped book with the first service stamp in early 1974 and the last very recently. I bought this C107 from one of my previous customers who had to relocate abroad with his job. He’d bought the car back in 2017, and has spent around £8K on it during his ownership, which included the all important bulkhead repair costing around £1500. All the work was done by a respected Mercedes Specialist, and one with a particular specialisation in the 107 series. As he’d invested so much in the car, he really wanted to take it with him, but red tape in the country he moved to put too many obstacles in his way, so he was forced into selling it. Incidentally previous to him permanently relocating, he’d driven the car on a few occasions from his home in Oxfordshire to his work places in Germany and Luxembourg, and says she still cruises comfortably at three figure speeds on the Autobahn. The interior is great place to be, and for an SLC it’s rare to find one where leather has been specified in favour of the more ubiquitous velour, which doesn’t wear well in my experience and has to tendency to lose its pile and go threadbare. It’s in excellent condition; there are no dashboard cracks, no seat rips or tears at all, and all the carpets were replaced a few years ago at some considerable cost. The electric windows are a bit; leisurely in their operation, but that’s just down to lack of use. The only mark is a little nick in the sunroof liner, that’s it. I'd wanted an SLC for sometime myself, as I've seen them gradually creeping up in value recently. Its really been a perfect storm for the model in that they were somewhat rare to start with, due to their sizeable price tag. Then as they were under the radar for quite a lengthy period, many were broken up for spares to feed the R107 SL market, which made them even rarer. However collectors have recently woken up to merits of the C107 SLC and its place in history; this is certainly a landmark car for Mercedes; not only was it driven by the rich and famous from Rock Starts to Royalty, it was also an SLC that Mercedes chose to use for their re-entry into Motorsport after an absence of 30 years following the Le Mans disaster in 1955. Notwithstanding all that, for me the shape, like a fine wine, has aged beautifully; when looked at through 2022 eyes, they're just simply gorgeous, but without being ostentatious, unlike today’s expensive Mercedes. I bought this car plain and simply because I just wanted an SLC, but I admit I had half an eye on it as an investment, as I think values of these have to potential to eventually leapfrog the R107 SL, however as I’ve said time and time again, that should never be the primary reason for buying a car like this. I suppose I would, if pressed, sell now, but it would be reluctantly. I’m a car enthusiast first, and motor dealer second, and as such I really don’t care one way or the other, as I just like having cars like this for me is better than having money in the bank. As long as I’ve got enough money to pay the mortgage, the bills and feed the kids that’s enough for me. Finally it also must be remembered that owning a car like this requires some level of commitment; although it’s in lovely condition, like any vehicle of nearly half a century old, it’s not perfect, and will need constant attention. The ownership of a vintage vehicle can best be described as like painting the Forth Bridge, as you'll never stop spending on it and doing things to it. That said, on present form you'll get all of it back and much more besides, as the pleasure of owning such an elegant piece of history, so it’s well worth it in my opinion. Also the feeling of driving a car like this on the public road that is totally exempt from Road Tax, MOT (and ULEZ/CAZ/Congestion Charge depending on where you are) with a big V8 burbling away under the bonnet, gives an extra degree of satisfaction too! THE MTSV DIFFERENCE Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that.
